NoSQL Databases

NoSQL is a family of databases that does not require the traditional relational table model. Document, key-value, wide-column, and graph databases each optimize different access patterns. Many offer flexible schemas and easy distribution, but they still require deliberate modeling. NoSQL is not 'no structure'; the structure is often shaped around the queries an application must serve.

Key idea

Real-world example

A session store can map a session ID directly to a small document in a key-value database. A content feed may use documents shaped for fast reads instead of joining many relational tables.
