Lesson 16 of 19

Inheritance

Extend a class while reusing its behavior.

Introduction

Inheritance lets a child class reuse or specialize a parent class. Use it when the relationship is genuinely an is-a relationship.

super() calls parent behavior without duplicating its implementation.

Key insight

Extend a class while reusing its behavior.

Example

class Animal:
    def move(self):
        return "moving"

class Bird(Animal):
    pass

print(Bird().move())

This example shows the core inheritance idea in a small, runnable program.

Real-world example

UI components and domain models sometimes share base behavior through inheritance.
